Thank you for visiting the TourCast Network. This site facilitates three main groups.
Tourism classes that want to publish information
about local tourism locations.
Individuals who want to promote a local place,
attraction, or event of interest to potential
tourists.
People who are planning a vacation, and want
to find interesting places to visit when
they arrive at their destination. It's well known that the best local food
is not necessarily at the multi-franchised
American chain in Bangkok, The best
nightlife can't always be found in a Korean
tour guidebook, and the best places to visit
cannot always be found in the local chamber
of commerce. The people who contribute to
this site are everyday community members
who have pride in something different. At the moment, the podcasts on this
site were written and recorded by Keimyung
University (Daegu) students in Robert Hart's
Advanced English Conversation for Tourism
class, Winter semester, 2007. Students were
asked to choose topics related to Daegu or
Korea in general, and were encouraged to
choose things which foreign visitors might
not otherwise be introduced to, like sun-ji-guk
and jjim-jil-bangs. Visitors to Korea and
Daegu are encouraged to download and listen
to these and learn about some of the favorite
spots for locals to visit.
ESL students can also listen to the podcasts
while reading the accomanying scripts to
help with English comprehension, referring
to the printed text for each podcast if there
is something they don't understand.
It is also a way for those who work in tourism
to find ways to explain local culture to
English-speaking visitors.
